For really dry hair?
Whenever my hair got really dry, I'd let my hair sit in Conditioner over night. I've tried all sorts of things, so here's the skinny...
Conditioner included in "at Home" hair dying kits - $5-10
Bedhead "Moisture Maniac" - $10-15
Shiseido Fino Conditioner - $15-20
They all work well, but if you're willing to put the money out and can find it, I LOVE Shiseido Fino (I bought the Shampoo/Conditioner set which was $57 - Imported from Japan). It always made my hair feel so healthy and lasted months because you only need to use a little.
But if you're on a budget, the little tube of conditioner included in the dye kits work well!
Saturate your hair in conditioner, put on a showercap, and let it sit for a few hours, or even overnight. Another tip is to blow dry your hair to get it warm before you rinse it out.
I'm not sure if any of this is "a bad idea" according to hair stylists, but my hairstylist says I have really healthy hair so I must be doing something right considering all the times I've bleached out my hair from Black to blonde... It's worth a try, why can it hurt?
For really dry hair?
I know there are special conditioners from Garnier Fructis for dry hair, and they have leave-in conditioners. And Aussie might have something.
For really dry hair?
try pureology's hydrate treatment. its a mask that you use once a week instead of conditioner and it leaves your hair so silky.
(its $50, but trust me your hair will never be more hydrated!)
you can get it at any professional salon or quality beauty supply. stay away from drug store treatments, they all suck.
For really dry hair?
uh i would use herbal essenses (the happily hydrated one) and then i would use garnier fructis leave in conditioner

Alot of shampoos and conditionors that they sell at regular stores contain detergents, that dry out your hair. Aussie doesnt... but its one of the few that doesnt. BedHead products are slightly more expensive, but they wont dry your hair out. You can find them at salons, and the hair place inside my Super Walmart sells them. You dont have to use as much to get the job done, so they last longer making them worth the few extra bucks. http://tigihaircare.us/tigi/bedhead/gall...
Here is the site where you can see a list of their products. Good luck!
